Laura Adel (born May 23, 1994, in Gdańsk) is an interdisciplinary artist. She is currently pursuing a doctoral dissertation titled "The Tenderness of Art: Research and Creation of Immersive Interactive Installations," under the supervision of Professor Jakub Jernajczyk at the Doctoral School of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. Currently conducting research at the University of Applied Arts in Linz, Austria, she works under the mentorship of Professor Martin Kaltenbrunner to expand her sculptural objects with tangible interactivity. As part of her doctorate, she is developing a concept she calls a "dialogical disposition," arguing that interaction with technology allows people to transcend the limitations of the body, enhancing cognitive capabilities and fostering a deeper relationship with the modern environment.
In September 2023, she presented an outline of her doctoral research at the International Conference on Methodological and Cognitive Aspects of Visual Arts in Wroclaw. She also participated in the International Symposium on Art "Was, Is, and Will Be," where she created a site-specific interactive installation titled "Coalesce," exploring the impact of movement visualisation on body awareness. In October 2023, she spoke at the Lower Silesian Congress of Culture. Aiming to actively shape the artistic scene of young media art, she co-founded “CYBERSKÓRA” with Bartosz Radzikowski—a series of audiovisual performances in the form of workshops and concerts focused on generative and post-digital creations.
As an academic lecturer, she teaches a course titled "Film as an Artistic Medium" at the Department of Media Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Wroclaw, Poland, where she is also involved in the Visual Cognition Studio. In previous years she was also working at the Laboratory of Microcontrollers and Multimedia Space Creation Studio. Additionally, she conducts lectures on Visual and Cognitive Aspects of Design at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Wroclaw.
In her artistic practice, she seeks the delicacy of the digital world, creating abstract, moving images inspired by natural phenomena. She has been a finalist in numerous national and international competitions and is an active participant in festivals, creating visual settings for performances—such as "Mr. Later" at the International Dance and Performance Festival Body/Mind at the Studio Theatre in Warsaw—and producing audio-reactive visualisations, for example at the International Open Source Art Festival at Wybrzeże Theatre in Sopot.
Laura’s works have been featured in exhibitions at renowned venues, including the Contemporary Art Centre Łaźnia in Gdańsk and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Wroclaw—Pavilion of Four Domes. She participated in the MagiC Carpets program—part of the European Union’s Creative Europe platform—due to which she undertook residency at Wroclaw Institute of Culture. Her work from the residency was selected for the exhibition "SUPERORGANISM" which was held in Tartu, Estonia—the European Capital of Culture 2024. This event, accompanied by a symposium and an exhibition catalogue, summarised three years of the MagiC Carpets platform’s activities across all European Union countries.
In January 2024, Laura held a solo exhibition titled "Sediment" at IP Studio in Wroclaw. In August 2024, at a solo exhibition she presented the video "INSIDES," accompanied by music from the duo PODPORA/KOHYT, in a specially arranged space within the Black Room at the Colony of Artists gallery in Gdańsk, Poland. She collaborates with musician Sylwester Galuska as part of the duo LASG, creating meditative landscapes of audiovisual abstraction that blend immersion and improvisation. In July 2024, she was honoured with an Artistic Scholarship from the President of the City of Wroclaw, with a summary exhibition titled "Sensitive Bodies" planned for February 2025 at IP Studio in Wroclaw. Her video works are also part of the Urban Screen Production collection and have been exhibited internationally, including in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
